    For 1 pint of custard

  • 1 pint (560ml) of milk
  • 75g Mortimer Chocolate Powder
  • 3 fl oz (70ml) hot water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoon custard powder
  • 1 tablespoon cold milk
  • 1 heaped teaspoon caster sugar

Method

In a small basin mix the chocolate with the hot water, to produce a paste.

In a saucepan warm the milk, add the chocolate paste, then whisk occasionally until the hot chocolate starts to simmer.

In a jug mix the custard powder to a paste with the sugar and cold milk.

Add the hot chocolate to the custard, whisk and pour back into the saucepan.

Heat gently, stirring constantly until the custard has thickened.

Use hot or cold

My daughters enjoy this over steamed sponge pudding or bananas.
I use 1 tablespoon of custard powder as I prefer custard that pours easily, add more powder if you want a thicker custard.
